As
the Head Instructor and Dojo owner of Polander Academy of Martial Arts,
I strive to educate my students in the true classical life protection
arts. My teachings are derived from the highly developed Oyata family
system, Oyata Shin Shu Ho, which means "to strive to attain true
moral goodness and to express it through one's every action." The
students of Polander Academy are taught not only to defend themselves,
but also the importance of respect, perseverance, honesty, and restraint
in their everyday life.
I began my education in martial arts in
Warsaw, Poland, where I was raised. During my youth, I studied martial
arts at different schools. I was a member of the Azs-Awf Warsaw Judo Club
from 1974 to 1980. During my earlier years at the Judo Club, I also trained
at Shotokan Karate, and in 1976, I continued my training at Kyokushinkai
Karate. While in College at the Physical Education University in Warsaw,
I began teaching others the basics of Karate as a self-employed instructor
and continued the study of martial arts on my own. I also participated
in national and international competitions and won many awards.
In 1984, I moved to the United States where
I continued my martial arts training under various professional martial
artists, such as James Takemori, the U.S. Judo Olympic Coach at that time;
Joe Lewis, Bill Wallace, and Jeff Smith, all three are World Karate Champions;
Professor Wally Jay, a Ju-Jitscu Master; and Frank Dux, a famous Kumite
Champion whose life story was presented in the movie "Blood Sport."
I also taught martial arts to others during my period of training. From
1984 to 1985, I was the Assistant Instructor of the Martial Arts Team
at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In 1986 and 1987, I was the
Head Martial Arts Instructor at the National Institute of Health in Maryland.
It was not until 1988 that I met the founder
of Ryukyu Kempo Karate Oyata Shin Shu Ho, Grand Master Taika Oyata. I
began my training under Grand Master Oyata and I have had the chance to
learn more about the true classical life protection arts.
While training under Grand Master Oyata,
I also continued teaching. From 1988 to 1989, I was the Head Coach of
the Martial Arts Team and also a Private Instructor in hand to hand combat
to members of the Special Forces Squads. In 1990 and 1991, I went back
to the National Institute of Health to continue as the Head Martial Arts
Instructor. From 1993 to 1994, I was a Private Technical Advisor in hand
to hand combat survival skills for CIA and FBI agents at the National
Naval Medical Center in Maryland. In 1992, I began teaching the system
of Oyata Shin Shu Ho to the employees and students at the National Naval
Medical Center.
In 1992, I was given the honor of being
awarded the title of 3rd Dan (3rd Degree Black Belt) by Yukimitsu Kano,
the President of the Kodokan Judo Institute in Tokyo, Japan. In 1995,
I was awarded by Grand Master Oyata the title of 5th Dan (5th Degree Black
Belt) and a Golden Scroll Certificate, making me a member of the Oyata
Shin Shu Ho family art. In 1995, I opened the Polander Academy of Martial
Arts where I currently preside as Head Instructor and Dojo Owner to those
willing and dedicated to learning the way of Oyata Shin Shu Ho.
As one of a few members of the Oyata Shin
Shu Ho family, a student, assistant student instructor at international
seminars, and a teacher in my own dojo, Grand Master Oyata has taught
me the true meaning of Oyata Shin Shu Ho. I was again honored to receive
the title of 6th Dan (6th Degree Black Belt) by
Grand Master Oyata in 1997. In 2005 I tested and received the rank of 7th Degree Black
Belt and the title of Kyoshi.
I have continued to spread the teachings
of the Oyata Shin Shu Ho family while teaching at the Polander Academy
of Martial Arts. Starting in 1997, I began organizing a Polish Organization
of Ryute Kempo. In 2000, four dojos were opened in Poland and were teaching
the Oyata Shin Shu Ho life protection art and the first students from
Poland had the honor of earning their 1st Dan (1st Degree Black Belt)
in front of Grand Master Oyata that same summer.
